Audio Device Switch
A downloadable tool for Windows
Audio Device Switch is a small native Windows tray tool for anyone who regularly moves sound between speakers, headphones, monitor audio, a USB DAC, or another playback device.
Choose two active playback devices once. Then press Ctrl+Alt+S (the default configurable global hotkey) or left-click the tray icon to switch—without reopening the Windows audio menus.
HOW SWITCHING WORKS
• If the current default is one of your two saved devices, the app switches to the other.
• If the current default is unrelated, the app selects the first saved device.
• If only one saved device is available, the app uses the available one.
• The selected endpoint becomes the Windows default for console, multimedia, and communications roles.
INSTALL
MSI: Download and run the x64 installer. It installs per-user and creates Start Menu and Startup shortcuts. The Startup shortcut launches the app when you sign in; remove that shortcut if you do not want autostart.
Portable: Extract the ZIP to a folder you can keep and run audio-device-switch.exe. The portable build does not create shortcuts or configure autostart.
LIMITATIONS
• 64-bit Windows only. The project does not declare a specific minimum Windows release, so compatibility outside the tested system is not documented.
• Only active playback endpoints are listed, and exactly two devices are configured.
• A disconnected or recreated device may need to be selected again.
• The global hotkey can conflict with another app and the binaries are unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may display an unrecognized-app warning.
GENERATIVE-AI DISCLOSURE
OpenAI image generation was used for the release cover artwork, and OpenAI assisted with the public release copy. No generative-AI-generated application code was added during this release preparation, and application behavior was not changed.
